Director of AI Software Engineering

Position Overview

The Director of AI Software Engineering will lead the engineering team responsible for developing and scaling our NexusAI products. Working directly with our Data Science team, and reporting to the CTO, you'll play a pivotal role in translating advanced AI concepts into robust, production-ready software solutions. You will build and lead a team of talented engineers focused on delivering exceptional AI products that solve real-world problems in supply chain logistics and healthcare operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Vision

    • Partner with the Director of Data Science to translate ML models and algorithms into scalable, production-ready software

    • Establish the technical architecture and engineering practices for NexusAI products

    • Make critical technical decisions that balance innovation, quality, and time-to-market

    • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in AI/ML engineering

    • Contribute to the overall product and technical strategy of the company

    • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools
       

  • Team Building & Management

    • Build, lead, and mentor a team of software engineers specializing in AI/ML implementation

    • Create a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement

    • Establish effective engineering processes, including code review, testing, and deployment

    • Set clear expectations and provide regular feedback to team members

    • Collaborate with HR to recruit and retain top engineering talent

    • Develop career growth paths for engineering team members
       

  • Product Development & Delivery

    • Drive the successful execution of the NexusAI product roadmap

    • Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality software releases

    • Implement agile development practices tailored to AI product development

    • Collaborate with product management to balance technical debt with new feature development

    • Establish metrics and monitoring to ensure system reliability and performance

    • Oversee the transition from prototype to production-grade systems
       

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with the Director of Data Science to ensure seamless integration of ML models

    • Partner with Product Management to define technical requirements and feasibility

    • Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and other technical teams to ensure quality and reliability

    • Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders

    • Participate in customer meetings to gather technical requirements and present solutions

Qualifications

Required:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on AI/ML systems

  • 3+ years of experience in engineering management or technical leadership roles

  • Proven track record of building and shipping AI-powered products in production environments

  • Strong understanding of ML engineering practices, including model deployment and monitoring

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization technologies

  • Familiarity with modern software development practices (CI/CD, testing, version control)

  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master's or PhD preferred)
     

Preferred:

  • Experience developing AI solutions for supply chain logistics or healthcare operations

  • Strong knowledge of MLOps practices and technologies

  • Background in scaling AI systems to handle production workloads

  • Experience working directly with data science teams

  • Familiarity with both batch and real-time inference systems

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced startup environment
