AI Governance & Ethics Specialist

Position Overview

The AI Governance & Ethics Specialist will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing our AI governance framework and ethical guidelines. You will work closely with our engineering, data science, product, and legal teams to ensure that our AI systems are developed and deployed responsibly. This role requires a unique blend of technical understanding, ethical reasoning, and effective communication to navigate the complex landscape of AI governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Ethics Framework Development

    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive AI ethics framework tailored to NexStratus' specific applications in supply chain

    • Create practical guidelines for ethical AI development, testing, and deployment

    • Establish clear principles for responsible AI use that align with industry best practices

    • Design and implement ethics review processes for new AI features and products

    • Stay current with evolving regulations, standards, and best practices in AI ethics
       

  • Governance Implementation

    • Collaborate with engineering and data science teams to implement governance processes

    • Develop documentation standards for AI systems, including model cards and datasheets

    • Create and maintain an inventory of AI systems and their associated risks

    • Establish metrics and monitoring systems for ongoing evaluation of AI performance and fairness

    • Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to relevant regulations
       

  • Risk assessment & Mitigation

    • Conduct thorough risk assessments for AI systems across different use cases

    • Identify potential ethical issues, biases, or unintended consequences in AI applications

    • Develop mitigation strategies for identified risks

    • Perform regular audits of AI systems to ensure continued compliance with ethical guidelines

    • Create incident response plans for addressing ethical issues that may arise
       

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Advise product teams on ethical considerations during the product development lifecycle

    • Educate engineering and data science teams on AI ethics principles and practices

    • Partner with the solutions architecture team to address client concerns about AI ethics

    • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams on responsible messaging

    • Serve as a bridge between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders on ethics matters
       

  • External Engagement & Advocacy

    • Represent NexStratus in industry forums and discussions on AI ethics

    • Build relationships with external ethics experts and stakeholders

    • Monitor developments in AI ethics research and regulatory frameworks

    • Contribute to industry standards and best practices

    • Help position NexStratus as a leader in responsible AI development

Qualifications

Required:​

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, philosophy, ethics, law, or related field (Master's preferred)

  • 3+ years of experience in AI ethics, governance, compliance, or related fields

  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and AI development processes

  • Knowledge of current and emerging AI regulations and ethical frameworks

  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to translate complex ethical concepts for diverse audiences

  • Experience developing governance frameworks or ethical guidelines


Preferred:​

  • Experience with AI applications in supply chain, healthcare, or similar regulated industries

  • Background in both technical and ethical aspects of AI

  • Familiarity with fairness metrics and bias mitigation techniques

  • Knowledge of privacy regulations and data protection frameworks

  • Experience conducting ethical risk assessments or impact analyses

  • Published work or presentations on AI ethics topics

  • Experience in a fast-growing technology company
